Upon entering the studio of King Ink inside The Mirage, the faint intermittent buzzing of a tattoo gun could be heard. Our fearless protagonist, Michael York walks with an air in his step, eager to receive his first tattoo in the name of technology. Once in the chair, with frightful eyes, Michael looked up to surrounding viewers. The tattoo artist, Jason Preacher glanced at him and asked, “Are you ready?”

With a wistful nod, Michael suggested commencement. That loud buzz worked its way through the studio and ink started to be injected into dermis layer of Michael York’s skin. With only an outline pasted, the shading of the tattoo was referenced off of an image nearby. The demonstration was being captured by a local camera and broadcast to all screens inside the studio.

The tattoo was completed in approximately two hours. With the help of Sky Wire Media, Augmentat came to a reality. When the tattoo is read by their app, a three dimensional image of the Digital World Expo logo comes to life. There were a lot of people at the conference curious of the technology and were very vocal in wanting to see it in person.

Michael York’s Augmentat is the first of its kind in the world, and hopefully the first of many.
